Secure Sockets Layer is a protocol for encrypting information that is transmitted over a network, including the Internet. SSL can be used for secure communications to a FortiGate, as well as for encrypting Internet traffic (see HTTPS) and for allowing remote users to access a network using SSL virtual private network (see VPN).
