FXO Gateway Management in FortiVoice

What if you would like to connect your IP phone system to an outside telephone line? The FXO gateway can translate your analog phone line to a VoIP call.

This recipe guides you through the process of adding and managing a FXO gateway configuration.


Adding a Gateway

First we’ll need to add the initial gateway

  1. Go to Managed System > FortiVoice Gateway > FXO Gateway.
  2. Select New
  3. Enter a unique name for the gateway and enable the gateway.
  4. Enter a hostname or IP address of the LAN1 of the gateway. If you are using a different network interface, enter its IP. If the gateway has been configured to use a different HTTPS port, enter the port number after the IP address. 
  5. Enter the necessary admin details and gateway details.
  6. Select Create.

Creating Multiple Gateway Trunks

A gateway typically has 8 FXO ports and all ports are mapped to a single trunk. If you would like to reassign the ports to multiple trunks, like having four trunks with two ports in each, you can add a gateway trunk. Before adding any port to a trunk, you’ll need to reduce the port number in the default trunk accordingly. 

To add a gateway trunk

  1. Go to Managed System > FortiVoice Gateway > FXO Gateway.
  2. Select a gateway to add a drunk and select Edit.
  3. Select Manage trunk.
  4. Double-click the default gateway.
  5. Reduce the number based on the number of ports you wish to map to the new trunk in the Mapped FXO ports.
  6. Select OK.
  7. Select New and enter the necessary information.
  8. Select Create.

Configuring an inbound/outbound Dial Plan

With the gateway configured you can now implement the trunk into a dial plan. When the FortiVoice unit receives a call, the call is processed according to the inbound dial plan. 

To set up an inbound dial plan

  1. Go to Call Routing > Inbound > Inbound.
  2. Select New.
  3. Enter the name and enable the plan.
  4. Expand the From Trunk section and select the trunks of the incoming calls that are subject to this dial plan established in the previous section.
  5. With dialed number pattern matching you can create one phone number pattern in your dial plan that matches different numbers.
  6. Select New in the Caller ID Match section and enter an incoming call’s display name string or the caller’s phone number string as the pattern.
  7. Select one or more called ID modification configurations. 
  8. Select the actions to process the incoming calls in the Call Handling Action type dropdown menu and then select the desired action.
  9. Select Create
