Configuring Local IP Extensions in FortiVoice Enterprise

FortiVoice Enterprise lets you configure IP phone extensions, edit analog extension, and choose extension preferences.

This recipe covers the steps necessary to configure an IP extension.

An IP extension is an IP phone connected through a network to a system. An internal IP extension is a phone connected on the same LAN as the system. An external IP extension is a phone connected outside the LAN.

Configuring Extension Settings

To create or edit an IP extension

  1. Go to Extension > Extensions > IP Extensions.
  2. Select New or double-click an existing extension.
  3. Enter the extension number following the extension number pattern.
  4. Enter the display name of the extension user in the SIP password field.
  5. Enter the password for the extension user to access voicemail and the user web portal in the User PIN field.
  6. Select the extension’s authentication type. LDAP profile requires you to select the LDAP profile and enter your authentication ID.
  7. Select the voice prompts for the extension.

Configuring Advanced Settings


With the general settings completing, we can now look at the more advanced settings. Open the Advanced Settings options by selecting the arrow.

  1. Select Internal from the Location dropdown menu if the extension does not traverse through Network Address Translation to connect to the FortiVoice Unit and select extension if it does.
  2. Select the SIP profile for the extension.
  3. Select the services for the extension in the User privilege’s dropdown menu.
  4. Enter the extension specific account code that can be used to restrict calls. 
  5. Select the department that the extension belongs to.
  6. Select the supported phone type for the extension. 
  7. Enter the MAC address of the SIP phone using the extension number. This option does not apply to FortiFone 859i/860i/870i.

Configuring Call Center and Voice Mailbox

Now expand the Call Center and Voice Mailbox sections. 

  1. Enable or disable this extension as a call center agent. If you enable the agent, you’ll need to configure it. For more information on configuring call center agents, see page 143 of the administrator guide.
  2. Configure the extension’s voice mailbox. 
  3. Select the extension’s own voice mailbox or that of another extension as the voice mailbox of this extension. Typically you will use the default mailbox.
  4. Select which users or groups to notify by selecting the user or group and then selecting the right arrow.
  5. Select Create
