FortiCloud-managed FortiAP WiFi

In this example, you use FortiCloud to configure a single FortiAP-221C, creating a working WiFi network without a FortiGate unit.

You can register for a free FortiCloud account at www.forticloud.com.

FortiCloud remote management is supported on FortiAP models 221C and 320C.

The FortiAP-221C unit has the required version 5.2 firmware. You will create a simple network that uses WPA-Personal authentication.

1. Adding your FortiAP to FortiCloud

Connect the FortiAP Ethernet interface to a network that provides access to the Internet.

On the FortiCloud main page, select Add Device. Input the FortiCloud key and submit.

The FortiCloud key is on the same label as the unit serial number.

Enter the name of your network and submit.

Click the tile for your network. The FortiCloud page for your network opens.

2. Configuring the SSID

Go to Configure > SSID, then add an SSID (+SSID button).

Enter your SSID Name, select WPA-Personal Security Mode and enter the Pre-shared Key.

3. Configuring the AP profile

Go to Configure > AP Profile and edit the AP Profile for your FortiAP model. (Mouse-over the AP Profile line to reveal the Edit button.)

In Radio 1, enable the SSID that you created. Scroll down and enable the SSID in Radio 2 as well for 5GHz coverage.

4. Configuring the access point

Go to Access Points and edit the FortiAP configuration. (Mouse-over the AP line to reveal the Configure AP button.)

Select the AP Profile that you configured.

 5. Results

Connect to the wireless network and browse websites.

On the FortiCloud site, go to Monitor > Report and view the last 60 minutes of activity.

This cook book is out dated, there is no Add Device option in the cloud any more. Instead you need to Add AP network. Then from that you can deploy the AP. Provided that you use FortiCloud option in the device’s setting, this will let you see the AP in cloud as AP inventory.
